FarmVille Strategy: The Definitive Golden Egg Guide

Golden eggs make the FarmVille world go around. No, seriously, if you are already above level 38, collecting golden chickens are a new form of progression.

As long as there is still fuel in the golden eggs, you really just can't get enough golden chicken eggs. If you are a prolific egg collector, you can certainly collect at least 100 fuel units each week. Additionally, it seems that golden eggs will be continually updated with new items (or at least old mystery box items), so as long as there is treasure in these eggs, they will be in demand.

As a result, getting golden eggs can be pretty tough! If you haven't been able to find any yet, read on to figure out how can get your hands on all the golden eggs your virtual heart desires.

Step 1: Seeing all your friends' posts

Before we get started, if you have over 250 friends, you need to make sure you can see all your friends' wall posts. I have over 2000 friends on Facebook, and as a result, I almost never saw mystery egg posts! I knew around 1/3 of my friends played FarmVille regularly, so you would think I would see several hundred egg posts per day, yet it never happened. Come to think about it, I never really saw many FarmVille posts at all.

I later found out this is because the new Facebook wall, by default, only shows your "250 closest friends" in your live news feed. To change this, scroll down to the bottom of your news feed, and click the link at the bottom right of the feed that says "Edit Options":

Now, in the window that will pop up, change the number of friends that the News Feed will show to a high number:

The 2500 number shown is just an arbitrary number that I picked. Note: If this window doesn't pop up for you when viewing the live feed, click over to the non-live news feed and click edit options. If it still doesn't show, go back to the live feed one more time and click Edit options for a third time. You should see this window at this point.

After making this simple change, I now was able to see posts from my 600+ farming buddies. I started logging in to situations like this a lot more often:

Thanks for the 20 Fuel Refills, Dhalver!

Prior to making this change, I had only seen one golden egg post. After making this change, I started seeing every 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the time of day. Which leads us to the next point - the more neighbors you have, the more likely you are to get an egg!

Step 2: Get FarmVille Neighbors

The more friends you have, the more chances you have to win! It's as simple as that. There are a variety of way to get FarmVille neighbors, such as e-mail lists, but you also may want to look into adding specific people who have expressed an interest in eggs, like those who are posting here on this egg group on Facebook (I will talk more about egg groups below).

By adding people off of the e-mail list, you get inactive and active farmers, depending on the age of the list. But, by seeking out individuals that are posting in egg-gathering threads, you know the new farmers you are adding not only will be posting egg links regularly, but will be active in game, so you will end up with more fertilized crops and more free gifts!

Fully fertilized field; feels good man.

Now that you can fertilize fully grown crops and soil, you can never really get enough neighbors. I am currently growing about 400 plots of peas and every single square on my farm has been fertilized.

Step 3: Look for eggs!

If you have a lot of friends like me, make sure you are looking at your Live Feed for FarmVille only. To do this, on your Facebook homepage, click the "more" tab on the left hand side then select FarmVille:

Clicking more will bring up:

Then click FarmVille.

Now, keep this window on your home-page open and refresh every minute or so, looking for Golden Eggs. Golden eggs can go very fast. I once was able to hatch a golden egg that had been left up for 4 minutes, but that is a rarity. Sometimes eggs will be gone in 30 seconds, especially if the person is a very generous person and posts eggs consistently.

What I would do is look regularly during prime time and use two tabs - holding one tab open to your live news feed set on FarmVille only, and use the other tab to play FarmVille, talk with friends, browse the web, or whatever else you want. Every couple minutes, go back and refresh your home page, looking for new egg posts. You can easily grab 10+ eggs a night doing this if you have a good amount of active friends.

However, if you don't want to add friends, don't feel like refreshing your home page, or become a virtual fuel baron, you can always join an egg group.

Egg groups:

While you can pick up an upwards of 5-10 eggs simply keeping an eye on your news feed each night, you might decide that 1) you don't have a few hours to gaze at your news feed or 2) you want more than a handful of eggs of each day so that you can build a donkey and fuel empire.

In that situation, you can join an egg-farming group.

There are a large number of egg groups on Facebook, such as this one. Here is the general gist of how they work:

- You find an egg.
- You match up with 2-5 people who have the same type of egg.
- You all trade links.
- Every time you find an egg (you can a lot with this strategy), you will wind up with 5 eggs.

Simply by finding a few eggs each day, you can easily get 20+ eggs each day. Even if you start out trading with white eggs, within a week (or less) you can easily have a full farm of golden chickens.

Once you are trading around golden eggs in a group, you get as many items rare items and fuel as you would ever need.

  4. Snowed in last Friday, I found 18 mystery eggs in harvesting 40 coops worth of chickens. It takes an average of 4 minutes to unload and reload a coop.

  9. If I have just one golden chicken in my coop when it's ready, does that mean if I produce an egg it will always be golden?

  10. its pretty simple playing off the farmville.com website. news feeds turn up under the game as other players play and you can follow all eggs / bonuses as they turn up. all you need is your fb account to log in.

  11. keeping more golden chickens in your coop and removing the others as you progress keeps the golden egg ratio higher. just remember your golden chickens benefit other players!
