There are 4 levels to each ribbon; a yellow ribbon (easiest), a white ribbon (easy), a red ribbon (moderate), and a blue ribbon (most difficult). For example, the local celebrity (adding friends to your farm) yellow ribbon is received after adding 4 friends to your farm, while the blue ribbon is received after adding 50 friends. While the blue ribbons are harder to get, they have the best rewards.
Here is the ribbon list, what is needed to complete each color, and the reward you will receive:

Local Celebrity: Ribbon awarded for adding your Facebook friends as neighbors to your farm.
Strategy: This is easy - just add friends to your farm. There are a lot of Facebook groups for this exact purpose (search FarmVille add me on Facebook) . If you still need people, feel free to post a link to your Facebook profile in the comments below. You should do this ribbon right away as it is very easy.
Yellow Ribbon - 10 xp and 1,000 coins - add 4 neighbors to your farm
White Ribbon - 20 xp and 2,500 coins - add 8 neighbors to your farm
Red Ribbon - 50 xp and 5,000 coins - add 25 neighbors to your farm
Blue Ribbon - 100 xp and 10,000 coins - add 50 neighbors to your farm
Good Samaritan: Ribbon awarded for visiting your friends' farms and helping them out.
Strategy: Help out 20 friends a day for a free 20 coins and 100 experience points. You can help out each one of your friends per day, but after helping out around 20 friends, you only get 5 coins and 1 xp per friend instead of 20 coins and 5 xp. Helping 2,500 can take awhile and there are easy ribbons to get, so I would not go out of my way for this ribbon until doing the easier ones first.
Yellow Ribbon - 25 xp and 1,000 coins - help 20 friends' farms out
White Ribbon - 50 xp and 2,500 coins - help 150 friends' farms out
Red Ribbon - 100 xp and 5,000 coins - help 500 friends' farms out
Blue Ribbon - 250 xp and 10,000 coins - help 2500 friends' farms out
High Roller: Ribbon awarded for earning coins.
Strategy: You earn this one pretty quickly if you plant a lot of crops. It's not profit, but revenue, so even if you spend a lot plowing and seeding your fields, you can earn this achievement pretty quickly. You can get the both the yellow and white ribbons within a few hours of installing FarmVille simply by earning other easy ribbons.
Yellow Ribbon - 50 xp, 500 coins, and a hay bale - Earn 750 coins
White Ribbon - 100 xp, 2,500 coins, and a butter churn - Earn 50,000 coins
Red Ribbon - 250 xp, 5,000 coins, and a wheelbarrow - 500,000 coins
Blue Ribbon - 1,000 xp, 10,000 coins, and a hay wagon - Earn 1,000,000 coins
A Pretty Penny: Ribbon awarded for spending coins at the market
Strategy: You can get this one quite easily by planting a lot of crops and expanding your farm. This ribbon comes hand in hand with the "High Roller" ribbon.
Yellow Ribbon - 50 xp and a Rest Tent- Spend 750 coins at market
White Ribbon - 100 xp and a Well - Spend 50,000 coins at the market
Red Ribbon - 250 xp and a Toolshed - Spend 500,000 coins at the market
Blue Ribbon - 1,000 xp and a Fruit Stand - Spend 1,500,000 coins at the market
Cream of the Crop: Ribbon awarded for harvesting crops.
Strategy: Fairly straight-forward; just plant and harvest a lot of crops! This one happens as you play the game, there is no reason to go out of your way for it. If you want to get to the 50,000 mark fast, plant berries as they do not take a long time to grow.

White Ribbon - 50 xp and 1,000 coins - Harvest 1,000 crops
Red Ribbon - 100 xp and 5,000 coins - Harvest 5,000 crops

Knock on Wood: Ribbon awarded for harvesting trees.
Strategy: This one is going to take a very long time and I would not go out of my way for it by any means. If you really want it, plant a lot of cherry trees, as they only take 2 days to mature. Even if you plant 100 cherry trees and harvest them as soon as they mature, you are still looking at over 3 months to get the blue ribbon.
Yellow Ribbon - 25 xp, 1,000 coins, and a fig tree - harvest 20 trees
White Ribbon - 50 xp, 2,500 coins, and a apricot tree - harvest 250 trees
Red Ribbon - 100 xp, 5,000 coins, and a banana tree - harvest 1,500 trees
Blue Ribbon - 250 xp, 10,000 coins, and a pomegranate tree - harvest 5,000 trees
Zoologist: Ribbon awarded for collecting from animals.
Strategy: See Knock on Wood. Going out of your way for this one is not worth your time. However, if you really want it, buy a lot of chickens. They take 1 day to lay eggs and only take up one small square on your farm.
Yellow Ribbon - 25 xp, 1,000 coins, and a sheep - collect from 15 animals
White Ribbon - 50 xp, 2,500 coins, and a duck - collect from 500 animals
Red Ribbon - 100 xp, 5,000 coins, and a goat - collect from 1,000 animals
Blue Ribbon - 250 xp, 10,000 coins, and a horse - collect from 5,000 animals
Architect: Ribbon awarded for owning buildings.
Strategy: When you have expanded your farm to the max size and have some extra coins, buy 30 rest tents (1,000 coin building) and place them around your property. This is a very cheap way to get extra experience points. Once you get the blue ribbon, just sell off the rest tents.
Yellow Ribbon - 100 xp and 500 coins - own 2 buildings
White Ribbon - 250 XP and 2500 coins - own 6 buildings
Red Ribbon - 500 xp and 5,000 coins - own 15 buildings
Blue Ribbon - 1,000 xp and 10,000 coins - own 30 buildings
Pack Rat: Ribbon awarded for owning decorations.
Strategy: Rewards are not too hot, so I would not go out of my way to get this ribbon. If you really want it, buy hay bales (100 coins each) and place them all over your property until you get the blue ribbon.

White Ribbon - 50 xp and a stone mailbox - own 50 decorations
Red Ribbon - 100 xp and a covered wagon - own 100 decorations
Blue Ribbon - 250 xp and a small pond - own 250 decorations
Animal Shelter: Ribbon awarded for adopting lost animals.
Strategy: Adopting a lost animal is an annoying process (and is often buggy). When a lost animal wanders onto your farm, copy the link and paste it into your browser. Sometimes you will get an animal, but usually not. For a surefire adoption, get the link to a lost animal from a friend, or click on it from your status feed to adopt it. Each adoption only offers 8 animals though, so you have to be quick.
Yellow Ribbon - a sheep - adopt 2 lost animals
White Ribbon - adopt 3 lost animals
Red Ribbon - adopt 4 lost animals
Blue Ribbon - adopt 15 lost animals
Green Thumb: Ribbon awarded for harvesting unique (i.e. different types) of crops.
Strategy: Get this as soon as you can. Set aside a few plots on your farm and grow the crops that take a few days to grow (1 plot for each different crop). You can easily finish off this ribbon within a week.

White Ribbon - 20 xp and 2,500 coins - harvest 10 unique crops
Red Ribbon - 50 xp and 5,000 coins - harvest 14 unique crops
Blue Ribbon - 100 xp and 10,000 coins- harvest 17 unique crops
Tree Hugger: Ribbon awarded for harvesting unique (i.e. different types) of trees.
Strategy: Another ribbon to start working on ASAP. Check out the Tree Guide for information on all the trees and where you can get them. Make efforts to get one of each type of tree and within 5 days you will have this ribbon finished.
Yellow Ribbon - 10 xp, 500 coins, and a plum tree - harvest 3 unique trees
White Ribbon - 20 xp, 2,500 coins, and a lemon tree - harvest from 8 unique trees
Red Ribbon - 50 xp, 5,000 coins, and a grapefruit tree - harvest from 12 unique trees
Blue Ribbon - 100 xp, 10,000 coins, and a passion fruit tree - harvest from 15 unique trees
Noah's Ark: Ribbon awarded for collecting from unique (i.e. different species) of animals.
Strategy: Work on this one right away as well. This one is very easy to get - harvest from the rabbit, chicken, horse, goat, duck, cow, pig, and sheep one time to finish it - only takes 5 days. Check out the animal guide for information on how to get each animal.

Not Spoiled, Gifted!: Ribbon awarded for holding unique gifts (i.e. different gifts) in your gift box.
Strategy: This is an easy ribbon and you should work on it right away. Once you add friends, they will start sending you gifts. Accept 1 type of each gift and do not place it on your farm. Once you have 21 different gifts (i.e. holding 5 goats only counts for 1 gift towards the title) in your gift box, you get the blue ribbon. If you have extras (like 5 goats), just place 4 goats on your farm to make room in your gift box.
Yellow Ribbon - 10 xp, 1,000 coins, and a hay bale - have 3 unopened gifts in your gift box
White Ribbon - 20 xp, 2,500 coins, and a barrel - have 9 unique gifts in your gift box
Red Ribbon - 50 xp, 5, 000 coins, and a crate - have 15 unique gifts in your gift box
Blue Ribbon - 100 XP, 10,000 coins, and a woodpile - have 21 unique gifts in your gift box
Crop Whisperer: Received for fertilizing neighbors' crops.
Strategy: When you help out your neighbors, fertilize their crops!

White Ribbon - 50 XP and 1,000 coins - Fertilize 500 neighbors' crops
Red Ribbon - 100 XP and 2,000 coins - Fertilize 1,000 neighbors' crops

Flower Power: Received for harvesting flowers.
Strategy: Plant flowers instead of crops!

Pretty Garden: Received for placing bouquets on your farm.
Yellow Ribbon: Place 5 bouquets on your farm - 25 xp and a special gift (daffodil bouquet)
White Ribbon: Place 10 bouquets on your farm - 50 xp and a special gift (red tulips bouquet)
Red Ribbon: Place 25 bouquets on your farm - 100 xp and a special gift (Pink Roses)
Blue Ribbon: Place 50 flower bouquets on your farm - 250 xp and a special gift (Sunflowers)
King of Compost: Received for harvesting fertilized crops.
Yellow Ribbon: Harvest 75 crops that have been fertilized - 25 xp and 1,000 coins
White Ribbon: Harvest 150 fertilized crops - 50 xp and 2,500 coins.
Red Ribbon: Harvest 300 fertilized crops - 250 xp and 5,000 coins.
Blue Ribbon: Harvest 600 fertilized crops - 10000 XP and 10,000 coins.
